WHY COMBINE YOGA AND WINTER HOLIDAYS IN THE MOUNTAINS

Why go on a winter holiday in the mountains.

Our bodies are designed to move. Biologically, we require continuous, regular motion. Yet, often in the winter months, we stay indoors, moving less and sitting more. Skiing / snowboarding satisfies our primal need for motion while reconnecting us with nature. Both novice and veteran skiers and snowboarders can attest to the physical and spiritual exhilaration of a day on the slopes.

WHY YOGA

- Yoga is therapeutic. To get the most from your days on skis or a board, follow the wisdom of yogis and stretch those muscles before and after you tackle the mountain.

- Doing yoga before a day of skiing or snowboarding - dramatically reduces your chances of injury, makes your joints more supple, your muscles more toned, and your mind more focused on control and performance.

- Doing yoga after your day of adventure - helps your body rejuvenate, restores energy reserves, speeds up your muscle recovery, reduces physical and mental tension, induces relaxation and promotes deep sleep, making you stronger both physically and mentally for the next day

Spring Equinox 108 Sun Salutation Workshop with Gillian Grant Sat, 25 Mar 2017 at 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

SPRING EQUINOX 108 SUN SALUTATIONS WORKSHOP

Saturday, March 25 * 11h-13h * 25€

DESCRIPTION

The Spring Equinox represents a change in the seasons, this is a powerful time to celebrate this change and challenge yourself with 108 sun salutations.

108 is a sacred number in many cultures and religions and has great significance in the ancient yogic texts.

- The diameter of the sun is 108 times that of the earth
- There are 108 sounds in the Sanksrit language (the old language recorded), 54 representing feminine energy and 54 representing masculine energy
- There are said to be 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra - 108 is a Harshad (meaning “great joy” in Sanskrit) number - it’s divisible by the sum of its digits
- There are said to be 108 earthly desires, lies and delusions

The list goes on and on !

By doing 108 sun salutations we bow down to and honour the sun, that which gives us our life energy. - We can use this practice to “get in the zone” – repetitive activity is favourable for meditation - Discover your own discipline and challenge yourself - Release the old and welcome in the new…summer is on its way !! - Detox the body and mind by getting your sweat on

The workshop will end with a long relaxation, meditation, and pranayama practice (breath work) to complete the ritual.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Gillian is an American living in Paris for over a decade. Yoga became a major part of her life after giving birth to her son 10 years ago. Her practice has helped to maintain balance in her personal and professional life. Teaching for Gillian is a way to help others also find balance in the often hectic urban environment.

Also, as a student of Ayurvedic medicine, Gillian finds much joy in working with homeopathy as an alternative way of healing that is complementary to modern medicine. As a Reiki master, she has practiced the healing arts through touch and the redirection of energy in the body.

Gillian completed her Yoga training (200 RYT) at the Sivananda Ashram in Orleans, France. The Sivananda style is very traditional Hatha with a major focus on meditation and spirituality. Hatha is a slow and steady practice that helps build a strong body and mind while focusing on the breath and energy centers of the body. Gillian completed her Kundalini Yoga training with 3HO, the association formed by the Guru Yogi Bhajan to bring the practice of Kundalini to the West. Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul.
